Intel Ivy Bridge chips first to employ 3-D transistors, entering production later this year

Intel has announced a major breakthrough in microprocessors, the world's first 3-D transistors called Tri-Gate, which enter mass production in its 22 nm Ivy Bridge CPUs. Intel Senior Fellow Mark Bohr shrinks down to the nanometer scale to show you an extended fin that gives the transistor three dimensions in this video below.
